Portrait of Zane Smith

About

I started in 2009 as a personal banker at Wells Fargo and, in 2020, was a vice president at Veritex Community Bank. From July 2012 to February 2020 I worked at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, which charters and supervises national banks. I joined as an Associate National Bank Examiner and, in April 2017, became a Commissioned National Bank Examiner and Examiner-in-Charge. I left to help build a bank, not just examine them.

In August 2020 I joined American Bank, National Association, a national bank headquartered in Dallas. From 2020 to 2024 I established its credit, compliance, technology, and enterprise risk functions, and since January 2024 I have served as EVP, Chief Banking Officer. I helped lead the bank's growth over that time. Since February 2024 I have been a director and an investor at State National Bank, a national bank in Groom, Texas, and since May 2026 I have been Chairman, engaged to lead a strategic turnaround.
